Maybe you can find a cool
Maybe you can find a cool toaster cheap on Amazon :) I love that site.
Yeah, my mom sent me a
Yeah, my mom sent me a toaster from Amazon after the toasted spider incident. It's got those wider spaces for bagels and such.
I'm jokin lol........, we
I'm jokin lol........, we already have a really cool black
toaster. Im just suggesting a big screen tv would be
nice Todd (wishful thinking lol).
I think the prize should be
I think the prize should be something computer related. How about an under the computer desk foot massager? Or maybe, if Todd is handy, he could convert an old VCR into a pet food dispenser. We could use one of those. Oh, I know what would make a good prize! Since summer is coming up, the prize could be a stand fan. He could do a free ship-to-store Wal-Mart delivery and the "winner" could pick up the fan at the Wal-Mart of their choice, that way maybe no one would have to give their address. The contest could only be open to those whose Wal-Marts would offer a free ship-to-store option, because you wouldn't want poor Todd to have to pay postage to Outer Mongolia or somewhere. Seriously though, I think I have the most points! So, I think it should be a random computer-selected drawing and each point equals one entry into the drawing, but the maximum number of entries you can have is 500. That would be more fair. Also, you have to have been a member for at least 30 days and have an autism spectrum family member or be a direct care/therapy provider for those with autism. Otherwise, you will get a lot of sweepstakers leaving dumb blog posts like, "I want the Wal-Mart fan! Pick me!!!"
Of course, if Todd wants more exposure to the website, he could in fact list his own contest at Online-Sweepstakes.com and come up with specific rules and a specific link to whatever blog entry he wants people to read and comment on. One rule should be that entrants must be over the age of 13 or 18. He could limit it to U.S. entrants. He could post a question like, "What do you think the cause of autism is?" or whatever, and the entrants must post a proper reply in order to qualify for the prize. In a contest like this, entrants should not be required to become members but rather simply register with an email address. The prize should then be a gift card to something or another because those are cheap to mail or email. Todd, don't email any prizes unless you get a confirmation response from the winner! :)
As usual, great ideas. I
As usual, great ideas. I think a Gift Card seems to be easiest. I can do Amazon and it will show up in your email. Plus Amazon sells just about everything these days.
I think some rules would be, must be 18, must have x amount of substantial and relevant posts, must have someone in your immediate family that has autism, etc. I might have to reset everyones points to make it fair. That way everyone has the same chance once the contest is announced.
Still need to think this thru tho. I should have something soon.
And...last but not least, this site doesn't make a dime, so any contest winnings would be coming right out of my pocket...so don't get too excited. : )
OK!!! I had the best idea
OK!!! I had the best idea this this moring which I totally forgot because I'm losing my mind--but it came back to me just now:
Okay: You know how they have different star levels on ebay? After 10 feedbacks you get a yellow star, and so on until you have 100,000 and then you are a red shooting star or something (hey, that goes along nicely with one of our other star bloggers's theme here on AB). And on another site I like, that sweepstakes site, after so many postings you are a Junior Sweeper, then Master, then Grand Master. We could work toward being a Grand Master Shooting Star Blogger. So the points system could just be a points-level system of expertise and amusement.
OOOO stars. *pokes user
OOOO stars. *pokes user name* I like this idea. I have a odd addiction to stars.
What is gas running
What is gas running currently up in your section of Minnesota. I live in Iowa. My son's father livesup by Brainerd. Since I do not have my own car I do not look at the pump much, I think it is 3.75 right now.
I work from home so I never
I work from home so I never pay attention to the gas prices. I'm pretty sure they're outrageous tho.
It jumped to 2.89 today.
It jumped to 2.89 today. *cries* Maybe it is a good thing I do not have a car.
Too true!!! One of our
Too true!!! One of our therapist missed most of a session yesterday because her car got broken into by hoodlum kids who stole nothing except her radio face. They shattered a window. So, she had to hang around and file a police report. She has an older car. She had work done on it earlier in the year because it wouldn't even start. Then, she got rear-ended in her apartment complex. And now, she's gotten vandalized in a rash of car break-ins in her neighborhood. This has all been just since January.
Have you thought about getting a bike and cart? We got a bike cart for our dog even before we had Wyatt. New they are several hundred dollars, but we got a used double cart for a fraction of that from an ad in the Pennysaver. That is a local free classified ads magazine. We used it for Wyatt when he was smaller, but we got lazy and just haven't been bike riding much. And now he SO BIG, that even though the cart holds 100 lbs. total, he won't fit in the seatbelts so we would have to modify it for him. Plus, I don't think he would wear a helmet without a lot of "helmet therapy" (meaning we would have to spend a lot of time training him not to take it off). And we don't have a helmet that fits him right now. Anyway, it was just an idea for you for FreeCycle--I wouldn't have thought of it except you mentioned your therapist/worker riding her bike 12 blocks to your house, so I thought maybe the terrain around you might be flat and maybe there would be some things of interest like the store or whatever that would be within that distance from you?
P.S. You know what I have
P.S. You know what I have to go and do right now? I've got to go clean out my car because Wyatt got ahold of my iced coffee beverage and spilled it all over. Do you know how disgusting milk products smell after they've been grossifying in a hot car for a few weeks? Gag!!! My car is so filthy right now, you would not believe it. At least it isn't as bad as my husband's car. Seriously, last time I rode in it I literally had to throw out three dozen paper coffee cups and as many muffin wrappers, banana peels, strawberry butts, plastic containers, and gas station chicken sandwich wrappers before I could even sit down. His steering wheel is not visible due to banana stickers all over it.
Sounds like you guys are
Sounds like you guys are maybe long lost relatives. Ma and I always end up with cars trashed inside like that. Ma is looking at an idea to maybe help me getting a car, if I get an online job I am looking at then I can afford my own gas and insurance hopefully. I refuse to get too messy with it though.
Here in So Cal it is
Here in So Cal it is $3.92/gal. lowest price.
I like having the
I like having the essentially meaningless points.
Are the hosting fees high
Are the hosting fees high for a site like this? I am surprise there are no ads. I know alot of sites actually end up relying on them. I have been tempted to stick the Google Ads on my regular blog but my readers are actually people I wish did not have access...
I did have Google ads on
I did have Google ads on here, but I'm trying to go for the community atmosphere rather than turn a profit. The fees aren't too bad, I have several sites that I run so it's not a big deal. Like I said, community...that's all that matters.
Uh Todd you dont have to do
Uh Todd you dont have to do ANYTHING lol about the points.
The fact that we all have "someplace" to meet , cry, b****
and laugh is PRICELESS. I was joking lol!! Save your money,
gas is EXPENSIVE!!
Yeah, no one wants you to
Yeah, no one wants you to fork out your own money for prizes. So get to work and find a couple of sponsors to donate prizes :)
WyattsMom, man you got
WyattsMom, man you got endless piles of good ideas. I like it...but where? I think we need more traffic here before I can start getting sponsors.
Yeah, I'm just a Chatty
Yeah, I'm just a Chatty Kathy know-it-all go-to Idea Woman. Okay, let's see, 1st step, let's trade links with some other sites. Do we do that already? Honestly, I haven't invited friends/family because I want to WRITE ABOUT THEM! :) But I'm perfectly willing to have perfect strangers and all my new buddies here read my blog.
Is there a term for going to someone elses's blog site and giving your own blog a promotional plug there? Blog Tag? I've seen people do that on this site and, while I think it is a tad annoying, I do understand why they do it and it doesn't mean that their blog isn't great and all. I think we should go to their blogs, politely comment on their posting and mention our blogs.
P.S. I LOVE the featured post idea! GREAT idea! Not only does it highlight informative postings, but it also prevents spam posts being the first thing people see when they come to the website.
