I have a six-year-old son with autism. He was diagnosed at 3 1/2 and has always been very aggressive. We hadn't wanted to experiment with any medications, but after he started kindergarten, we decided he needed some help with impulse and anger. He is now in the first grade and doing well acacemincally, however, still problems with aggression. I need any new ideas I have missed, words of wisdom from parents who's autistic kids are older and doing well/or not and encouragement that my son can grow up to be a good, productive human being. I haven't met any other kid like my son yet

My son is nearly nine and
My son is nearly nine and his worst period behavourally was between 3 1/2 and 6 1/2. From 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 was the worst time. He was so hard to handle that even his very supportive grandparents could not have him for more than two hours at a time. We couldn't even leave our section if there was going to be other people about. At school he had to have two full time teacher aides for much of the day. We in desperation turned to medication. Ritalin made him worse - much, much worse. So much so we were put off trying anything else but ended up being talked into Rispiridone. This worked at very low doses. It didn't seem to change him in any way except to take the edge off his behavour. When he hit 6 1/2 it was like someone flicked a switch. He developed a far larger vocabulary and actually started to develop conversation. Today he is a joy. We moved and started a new school this year, which is going well and he has made friends. Only one biting incident and very few other acts of aggression. Hang in there and good luck.

I am outraged that a new organization such as CNN allows such misnomers to continue to spread.
I speak as a father, a scientist and a pediatrician... mind you I became a pediatrician to help children... instead of becoming a plastic surgeon who work on people like Ms. McCarthy for pure cash.
There has been no scientific evidence showing any relationship between autism and vaccination. One of the best studies refuting the connection between vaccines and autism was preformed in one of the Scandinavian countries where there is social health care ... allowing medical records being available on majority of the population. A population that has the one of the least Genetic variability as compared to the United States (secondary to our diversity.) The rates of Autism was the same for pt who were vaccinated vs. those who opted out of vaccinations.
Unfortunately in our country some parents, actually most do not want to face the most obvious cause of Autism.
The GENES they (as in Case of Ms. McCarthy) passed on to their children. It is great to pass on the blame to vaccination... which through out this century a have save numerous lives of children (too many to quantify).
I care for health of children deeply... whether they a minor cold, autism or childhood tumors. I am truly sorry that her child has autism, but to spread falsehoods is not the cure to autism.
To care for children in our country and to give to research for childhood disease is the answer. The amount of money spend on pediatric disease research in our country is dwarfed by the money spent in adult research... and even more by our many other spendings.
If Ms. McCarthy truly cares for her child and well fare of other children, she should come to grips with the fact that her son has Autism, it is no ones fault, and to help gather public support for Scientific research. Otherwise by spreading her falsehoods, she can cost the life of many children to be cut short when they end up contracting one of the childhood diseases that the vaccines would help to protects.
I'm just curious..........
I'm just curious.......... does YOUR child have autism? My child is severly autistic, non verbal,
severe MR and severe seizures. Would you bet your life or your childs life that you're right?,
I think not. Truth is you dont really know, NOBODY really knows where it came from and
unless you live with this 24/7 you dont understand. My 8 year old cant even tell me he loves
me. Have a nice day.
I bet my kids on it. My kids
I bet my kids on it. My kids recieved the same vaccinations and one of my children has autism and one is 100% healthy. I've heard too many people say they have opted out of the vaccine and their child has autism. How can you say it's vaccine when children with no vaccine get autism? It's a waste of time to research this.

This product (Monavie) is not a drug, cure or preventive but parents in our group that have tried it with their children have gotten some really good results. Remember that is only a food but these 19 fruits in a bottle are very powerful. www.thegreatproduct.com/lakeville is where you can get more information and I would suggest giving a couple of bottle a try with your children. I'm a school teacher in Minnesota and I'm very pleased to see how powerful this product is.
I hope the best for your son!

We have a 5 year old boy who sounds a lot like your son. My wife attends a Autism Support Group and in her discussions with them our son seems to be the only one that acts out with aggression. We have been working on his diet lately, cutting out dairy products and anything with a high sugar content and we have seen a change. He appears to be less excitable now which keeps him more level and easier to communicate with. We have also been trying to stay away from medications but haven't ruled it out yet.

Hello All, I think it is a shame what is going on with the unreleased reports on the MMR link to autism. I found this video on you tube that talks about treating "autistic" children for mercury poisioning. The parent also seen in this video notices a drastic change in their child's behavior when they switched to treating for mercury poisioning. I hope this help.
