autism experience

Good morning.. My girl., Trinity, is having a stressful week. She is taking steroids and antibiotics for a chest infection and this has her sooo uptight. As you can imagine, everyone else, including me, is uptight too! Think I'm going to try some soothing music this morning and see if that helps. Any other ideas are welcome.

Hi! Soothing music could definitely work! Other calming things could be calming aromatherapy. I don't have any of that stuff per se, but I do have vanilla candles and chamomile tea. Someone told me to try Sleepy Time tea for my son, so I'm going to try that in the future. Anyway, candles, tea, music, aromatherapy, and even a back rub (if Trinity doesn't mind that sort of sensory stuff) is all part of a pampered day-spa feeling that is calming to most people.

You could try going for a ride in the car. You know what would make me feel good is something fuzzy like one of those squishy fuzzy pillows they're making now for kid's rooms. Trinity could hug it. Does she like stuffed animals?

Does she like Chinese food? A big bowl of won ton soup would be great! A bowl of home made ramen or chicken noodle would also be fine. Souper soup!

And of course, videos/DVD's if she is feeling well enough. Sometimes if I'm feeling really icky I can't bear to read a book or watch a movie, which are things I would normally enjoy.

How about art? Does she find it calming to draw? You could give her a fresh pad of paper and some brand new sharpened pencils. Or whatever art supplies. You could work on Christmas cards ahead of time. I just thought plain paper and pencils might be calming and neutral--not colorful and busy.

Walking.  Going for a stroll in a quiet place.  Taking a picnic.  Listening to birds.

turmangirl  Boy, you are just a wealth of info!  Funny you ended with listening to birds..She and I have started a new thing on mornings that allow..  We go out back, sit on the steps...sip our drinks and "talk to the birds."  She can whistle a little , so this is what we do.

Today it was raining...so our nature time wasn't to be.  We like to say good morning, Lord, then watch for any signs of life....it is so enjoyable...

Thanks for all the suggestions.  She is not much for back rubbing this week.   But hugs and kisses still sit well.   She is much better today..I will be glad when the medications are done.  She HATES the taste, but she took them for me this morning anyway.
