What is the basic difference between Shanesh’s free and paid autism apps?

To understand the difference between our free and paid autism apps, have a look at the following scenario.

Chris is an 8-year-old boy who needs to learn the sequencing of numbers from 30 to 35, according to his IEP goals. The fact which is worth mentioning here is that the boy has no problems telling numbers from 15 to 20 in the correct order. Now to help Chris improve his basic maths skills, his parents get him the free version of 123 Order.

Results

While using the app, Chris gets certain questions he does not really need. For example, 123 Order asks him to sequentially identify numbers between 15 and 30 – a skill that he has already mastered. It’s only in a latter part of the gameplay that he is asked to arrange numbers from 30 to 35 in the correct order. So in a way, the free version of the app does not pin down the essential lessons in accordance with an individual’s IEP goals.

What could be different with our paid autism apps?

Appy numbers tune in to the festive mood

More than 4,000 iOS apps were downloaded during the week leading up to Christmas – a record-breaking feat since the birth of Shanesh. Moreover, we got a new entry in the form of Philippines, contributing 1.16% to the number of total hits that eventually metered up to a whopping 4,384. Another important highlight of the week was the impact some of our new apps made. Make Sentences – an app to fortify language skills in special needs children – perched handsomely on top of the download tree with 558 counts. The figures also narrated a promising tale for Divide N Play, a math app tailored to develop basic division skills in autistic children. After registering only 2 downloads during its opening week, Divide N Play racked up 148 units on Apple’s download chart last week.

Children on white horses - Holidays special blog

The horse has a longstanding connection with human civilization, dating back to prehistoric times when our ancestors started revering the noble, wild beast as an emblem of grace, valor, beauty, energy, power, victory, strength and freedom. While the horse has been playing a key role in advancing the throttle of progress, it is also ranked among the most celebrated holiday spirits across many cultures. A nineteenth century literary anecdote talks about Santa Claus riding a horse-drawn carriage to bring gifts to kids...

Merry Christmas

Today was a good day!  Ethan did awesome.  He was very overwhelmed when he first woke up and came downstairs but my niece (3 yr old) and my nephew (6 yr old) walked him right through it.  They helped him open every single present that Santa gave him by starting the paper for him and letting him go to town!  Ethan is so lucky to have them.  They love him unconditionally and they don't care what obstacle gets in Ethan's way, they are always there to guide him through it.  I think that was the best part of our day!  Knowing that Ethan is loved for being exactly who Ethan is!!!

I hope everyone had a great day with there families!

Love,

The Swift Family!!

Our Journey with Autism

I am new to the idea of "blogging" but after the recent issues surrounding mental health and violence, I felt it was time to share a story. The story of our family and autism. The way it affects us, how we have handled it both good and bad, and how it shapes the people we are and I believe leads to the violence we see in our own children.

We are a family of four. My wife Tracy, two daughters, Brittany and Megan and me.

Tracy and I met in 1996 where we both worked.  I don't know about her but for me I was completly smitten with her the moment I laid eyes on her and have never wanted any other woman as much as I do her frm that day on. I waited 2 years before I even asked her out because I didn't think that dating where you worked was a good idea. She graduated from college and quit her job and I asked her out the same day.  For me at least, its been worth it through everything.

Hidden violence – How important it is to ENGAGE individuals with autism

It was hard to really engage in any real conversation. It was like his mind was going a million miles an hour.

– Mark Tambascio, a family friend of the Lanzas

With fresh reports about the background and personal profile of Newtown gunman Adam Lanza churning out more and more disquieting headlines around the globe, it may be time to investigate into a behavioral problem commonly seen in people with autism spectrum disorders. What we are referring to here is a missing element called engagement in the context of special needs education. Before we elaborate further, let us quickly look back at the developmental days of Adam Lanza.

Three's Company

WebTeam has added three more colorful apps to their roster; two for mathematics and one for sentence building.

Check out our 'Minus Drills' app for subtraction problems and 'Divide N Play' for division. In these new apps, you can set the time for how many minutes per question and also you are able to change numeric prolems into word problems.

In the new 'Make Sentences' app, you drag labels with words on them and try to make a complete sentence out of the words, while the sentence is being said in the app. There are also options to change the time to guess each sentence and you can also select whether you want the sentences in order or random appearance.

You can grab the apps currently from iTunes here:
