More Support Groups

I'm toying with the idea of making more support group type sites like this one. I really like the idea of building sites that will help people, rather than building spammy sites just to make money. I'd be using this site as a guide, so I want to make sure it is the best it can be, and as usual, your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Some other groups that I thought might find a site like this useful are:

  • Down Syndrome
  • Alzheimers
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Breast Cancer
  • Depression
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Recovering Drug Addicts/Alcoholics
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Infertility
  • Leukemia
  • Paralysis
  • Sleep Dissorders

What do you think? Are there any others? Who else might find a support group useful? Should I bother spending my time building these sites?

As for the question about

As for the question about bothering to build websites, I would pick three that you have some remote interest in, and then search the web to see what kind of support sites are out there for that particular thing.  Give it some thought and research and you will be able to answer your own question.

Well, I think within every

Well, I think within every group there are sub-groups. So, for instance, this site could support sub-groups of PDD-NOS, Aspbergers/HFA (High-functioning Autism), groups by region, groups by age of dependents affected by ASD, girls-only, etc.

So, let's take your epilepsy group, for example. There are other seizure disorders out there. Make sure you include them. Then, there could be a separate group for pregancy (and those who have epileptic children). They might have a lot to talk about regarding medications, complications, possible birth defects, etc.

Anway, make sure you include lots of sub-group possibilities in your Key Words and Forum/Message Boards.  People want to find people who have answers, ideas, and insights, about what they are going through.

I think what makes this site

I think what makes this site so comfortable is it is made-up mainly of parents of ASD children. I think any support group for  that group is a good idea.
