Offended by the Puzzle Symbol?

I have been looking up tattoo designs looking for more details of a piece I am sketching out and going to get in honor of Michael. I found a section about the discussion of puzzle tattoos, and I was suprised how many people are offended by the puzzle being the symbol for Autism and Autism Speaks.

The way I see it, Autism is a puzzle, and it is one that is full of tiny pieces that are hard to place.  Once it is all placed together, I am sure the results could be beautiful. Michael is like a puzzle, with a few pieces missing. But he is not greedy, he is not vengeful, Michael appreciates things like Halloween and Birthdays with a different passion than "normal" children. So maybe in a way, he is blessed by missing a few pieces, he will see life in ways some of us could never.

I still plan on getting my tattoo with the puzzle piece, and know even if it offends some, I am standing up and saying I am proud and unashamed of my Autistic son.

An autism tattoo is

An autism tattoo is something I have wanted for a long time on my back shoulder. I read a blog recently where the girl showed the tatoo she had (not reltated to autism) and she had a pic, seemed to be same location. She was writing about how much pain she was in. I got my only tatoo at age 18, so that was 30 years ago. Not sure I can endure the pain now.

I have done searches trying to look for images of autism tattoos and not many showed up. I know that a Dad had many tattoos done. I think his name is Bill Davis, his wife passed on a few years ago and he is raising the son alone and I read recently where they were homeless for awhile and the autism community helped them out. That was good to know that people helped them out.

Good luck with your tattoo, hope you post pics when it gets done and the sketch.

I actually have birthday

I actually have birthday money that is supposed to only be spent on myself, which is hard cuz I have bills that need paid ect... I have thought about getting the tatt done, but now that Michael may never get the Autism diagnosis officially I am unsure if I still want the same idea. I have just thought about putting a star on the end of the "rosary" since stars are kind of my talisman.

The math problem is like the numbers/letters you have to enter on sites like myspace to help prevent spamming from automated accounts and such.

I am slowly saving for the tattoo. Things went backwards and I have to take some out of my savings. Being poor it is hard to put back much, but I wil someday get it done.
