Tired and Worn Out

WyattsMom's picture

It started with a meltdown at the school playground. It was under construction today so they had to go to a different playground.

When Wyatt got home, he was in a very hyper mood. We kept getting after him not to slam the lamp in his room into the wall. (I think he liked the sound it made, plus he knew we didn't want him to do it). The lamp shattered. Glass went everywhere. A piece made a small cut in his shoulder.

While we were frantically cleaning the glass up and vacuuming, Wyatt went into the other room and was trying to figure out how to take my sewing machine apart with a small screw driver. The machine was plugged in and turned on because Wyatt was in the middle of a therapy session when all of this happened. I thought I would have a chunk of time to modify his swim diapers, which he has outgrown but that cost $17 per pair--so I'm determined to get another season out of them. So, while all of this chaos was happening, the therapist got her hair stuck in a fly strip I had hung up. We finally got a band-aid on Wyatt's boo-boo, but he wasn't very cooperative.

My mom is visiting so she said she would watch Wyatt while I took a nap. Wyatt threw all the books in the case down the stair well, then while she was picking those up...Wyatt got into some cherry red shampoo in the bathroom which got all over him, the toilet, mirror carpet, etc. So she had to clean all of that up. Then while she was cleaning that up he took his diaper off and peed on the floor and then stuck a bunch of plums and nectarines down the garbage disposal.

We decided to get out of the house and go for some iced tea at McDonalds. They have a local special for 42oz. drinks for 69 cents. Wyatt still wasn't calmed down after our outing, so we gave him some melatonin and we took him to the pool. He finally wound down in the spa and nearly fell asleep. Nearly. But no such luck. My husband has been driving him around for over an hour. We were hoping we could slip away for an hour to just hang out together (since my mom is here to babysit) after Wyatt went to bed, but it is looking less likely by the minute.

July 2 - Hopefully Wyatt got

Okay that sounds like the day from hell ugh. You

might want to ask the doctor if you can give him

Clonidine. Its used to lower blood pressure &

is calming. It helps us ALOT. Marcels main problem

is hyperactivity so I can relate. Keep your chin up.

Cindy =)

What are the side effects of

WyattsMom's picture

What are the side effects of Clonidine?  I didn't hear that one mentioned at the lecture I attended, but they said that in the real world it would be confusing because of brand names.  Do you know what category it belongs to, one listed below or something maybe off-label, like a blood pressure medication prescribed even though a child doesn't have high blood pressure?

ATYPICAL ANTIPSYCHOTIS

ANTI-DEPRESSANTS (SSRI)

ANTI-DEPRESSANTS (OTHER - ATOMOXETINE, TIANEPETINE)

I guess you'd call it off

I guess you'd call it off label. No real side effects.

Kids blood pressure tends to run lower anyway.

We have such a wonderful doctor I didnt question

it too much. It's an older medication, common,

not expensive. We're using a clonidine patch

that works okay as long as he'll keep it on and

we always have the pills ready. A half every four

hours helps calm.

Okay I need to explain

Okay I need to explain better. I was in a hurry when

I typed that. Just like anything else you have to be

careful with dosing. We use the pills as a bandaid,

our back up in case he wont keep the patch on.

The most we've ever given him is three quarters of

a pill which isnt alot. As big as he is 52inches tall

and 82 pounds Dr Fierro said he could safely take

two tablets but we wouldnt do that. Three quarters

is the most. We're very careful.
