TOYS~back to basics

Cindy's picture

When I was a kid I remember my dad would make a toy for me using a button & a string.

You'd pull on the string & the button would move back and forth rapidly making a swishing

noise. He also used to fold a hankerchief into what looked like a baby in a cradle, he used

to do  that in church to help keep me quiet. Yesterday I took some burgandy ribbon I got

at a thrift store recently, cut it into strands and tied the strands together in the middle.

Marcel had more fun with that silly thing. I know when my brother was little his favorite toy

was pots and pans or an empty box. I think sometimes the best toy is what that costs a few

cents or is even free. Socks! Marcel loves socks. Im wondering what back to basic cheap toys

your kids enjoy?

Wyatt likes clear plastic

Wyatt likes clear plastic bottles and containers. He enjoys water play. Also free grocery store balloons. The cat's toys--colorful fur/feathers attached to string. The cat gets excited, too. Underwear drawers. Cheap clearance holiday ribbon.  Coins to throw and put in coin banks.

Sounds familiar lol!! Only

When we adopted Elsie the first thing they told us

Michael loves shoe laces. I only have one pair of shoes that he has not destroyed. And that is because he is too afraid of Mommy Wrath now. He also loves belts or ropes. I am always trying to keep him from wrapping it around his neck.

A strip of fun fur about 2

A strip of fun fur about 2 to 3 inches wide and about 8 inches long (sewn onto a leather or other heavier backing fabric) with eyes sewn at one end makes a great "pet."  Stroking the fur will make the strip wiggle up and down - my son loved this as a little kid.

I forgot to say that the

I forgot to say that the leatherish backing needs to have some grippiness to it - kinda like side of a sheepskin coat that doesn't have the wool on it.  Probably the real old ones were made from real furs with the underside just left as the roughly dressed hide.

Anyway, that's how the "worm" grips a flat surface (like a table) so that the pulling action on the fur being stroked makes the strip lift and fall like a worm moving.
