I belong to a ton of niche sites such as this one. I'm always leary when people use their first post to sell something or to put a link to their site or blog. You know they're never coming back. They don't want to be a part of the community. They are just using the site as a marketing tool. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone here, I'm just ranting.
My goal for this site is to be a place where people can post freely, share things, open up, be a part of a community, and help others, without being spammed or sold items.
Some ideas for your first post:
- Introduce yourself
- Share your story
- Tell about your family
- Answer someone's question
- Share a great autism resource (not your own site or blog)
Sure if you have something that will be helpful to the group, go ahead and share it, but if your one and only post is a link to your site or product, this seems more like a marketing tool than helping the group. If you do have a product that should be marketed to the group, create a post or two that is useful to the community. This will help your credibility and build trust.
To avoid people blatantly marketing things on this site, I'm going to begin moderating these type of posts.

Was this aimed at me?
Was this aimed at me? :-) I totally understand. I have been meaning to spend more time here and your post was a nice kick in the pants.

No, we would never want to
No, we would never want to alienate anyone! LOTS of people have more than one blog and have posted a link here. Feel free to hang out here as much as you like! Share some "best of" parts of your other blog, even. I would love to hear how you got started on bio-med and all that.

Nope, this was not aimed at anyone here. Just me thinking outloud.
I want this site to be completely free from spam and blatant advertising. I think that will make a tighter community and a better user experience for everyone.
If you do have links you'd like to share add them to your profile and add them to the links page. Also, please add a link back to AB. :)

Bravo! I think that's such
Bravo! I think that's such a good idea. I don't mind so much when people post a link to their other blog. I view it at it as more of a link type of post. Maybe there should be a separate format for those who just want to post links to their other blogs. Or, you could make it a rule that this is not allowed except in a profile.
I can totally see why people have blogs other places because they can do cool backgrounds and music, that sort of thing. But this site is cool because it is sort of a cross between a Yahoo user group and a regular blog--I think it is a very unique community.
One thing I would like to see, just for myself anyway, is maybe a way to just have a daily journal of so-so stuff that wouldn't necessarily post all importantly on the front page for a space of time. That brings me to another question, is there a way to go back more than 5 posts for the latest posts? I have this feeling like while I was on vacation I may have missed some people's brand new debut blog posts.
Well, people can put their
Well, people can put their links on the links page or in their profile, both would work.
If you click on Blogs at the top, this will list all blog posts in reverse chronological order (newest first). You can browse thru everything on the site that way.
