Vacations and Autism Conferences

Speaking of vacations, we have decided that in the future, all of our vacations will be based on autism conference locations. That way, we can write off some of our travels. There are many benefits to being parents of ASD kids and it is wonderful to discover them and grab hold with both hands.

I found this website http://www.autismconferences.com this morning. (That particular website is based in Canada). While it is a fabulous idea, it needs more exposure and it needs Events (like picnics and seminars). Neither of the conferences that I am going to this spring are listed. there. So, Todd, if you are reading this, maybe we could have our own map and listing of autism conferences plus autism Events, as an auxillary part of this website. I/we could help you by scouring the internet for conferences, state by state, province by province, and even include other English speaking countries like the UK and Australia/New Zealand. I know that you have an Event category, but it isn't organized. Also, we would need the postings to expire.

We do have a way to create events, they do expire, and we do have a calendar page which will show all events by date. I think I could create another view that lists the events by state. I think I can even include mapping using Google Maps. I doubt I'd be able to make the map as kick ass and flashy as their site tho. hehe  I'll play with it.

Great idea!!

P.S., I was checking out our Links page here on AB and saw that there is a link for an Autism Travel website. It was created by a high school teacher who has a young ASD child. She is battling/recovering from a rare stage IV cancer and just got home from major surgery at the hospital a few days ago, so here is her blog if you want to wish her well:
